biography

Born and raised in Caracas Venezuela, Manola Borrajo-Giner started her career as an artist after receiving a BA in Sociology. Her art training includes courses at the University of Colorado and the University of California at Los Angeles. She considers herself a self-taught artist.

She moved to Edmonton in 2000. Her natural creativity has been further enriched when she was introduced to glass at Panache Ceramic Industries. Since 2002 she has been exploring that medium and created numerous bold, rich color pieces. Her techniques and use of dots make her work unique. Nature has been the primary theme in her glass work. Poppies, trees and organic forms are the main subjects.

She tries to manipulate the glass like wood, her other favored medium, stretching the boundaries between drama and romanticism. Glass and Manola are a special mix.

Manola’s participation in group and solo shows continues to expand. Her work is rapidly gaining recognition, and is housed in private and corporate collections across Canada, United States, Mexico and Venezuela.

Locally her work has been exhibited in Front Gallery and Panache. She has also been engaged in numerous private commissions.

In 2010 Manola was awarded a commission to create a glass wall in the new Strathcona County Library in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

In 2010 Manola appeared in the book "Creative Glass" by Danijela Kracun and Charles McFadden. Published by Schiffer Publishing, Atglen, PA. This book compiles the work of selected international
glass artists.
